FINA (the international body that oversees swimming and other aquatics sports) has released its Reform Committee Report. The recommendations are scheduled to be voted on in December at FINA Bureau meeting held in conjunction with the FINA world championships.
There is a lot packed into this fewer than 20-page report. Much of it is long overdue and FINA deserves to be applauded for moving these reforms forward. However, throughout this process, it is clear that FINA has not engage with the athletes that make the competitions the things people want to see. FINA needs to do better in listening to its athletes and including them in the discussion, if they truly want to improve aquatics.
