I have been toying with the idea of including a blog about governance (sports and other) on my website for a while now. This Michael Ask article from Inside the Games provided a new spark in that idea. Sports organizations are struggling to keep up with modern governance best practices. This article does a good job of providing an overview of this problem, which I hope to explore in more detail.
Through this forum, I will highlight some examples of governance — both good and bad. Not all will be from the world of sports, but I will try to provide a context that will allow the lessons to applied broadly. I also intend to address other ways that governance can be improved, sometimes in reaction to problems and sometimes proactively before problems arise.
I’m not promising a set schedule. It will depend on when I see an interesting story and other factors, but I do hope to add frequently to this, and I hope it sparks some conversations with others interested in this area.
